Red Dwarf
One of the most common stars and compared to other types of stars probably the least special looking stars in the universe are Red dwarves. These stars are small and very dim but don't let this fool you. They may be small and dim but they are one of the oldest objects in the universe. How old? Well one such star is thought to be about 13.5 billion years old, named "2MASS J18082002 5104378" and it is thought that it will survive much much longer even after our sun is gone. It is located just 2000 light years from earth inside our milky-way galaxy.
The reason for this long life span is also due to their smaller size. Bigger stars go through their Hydrogen fuel much quickly and they go supernova once they run out of fuel in their core. Red dwarves however use their fuel at a very slow rate which is why they have such long life spans. That is why the planets orbiting such stars are one of the best candidates to find life because life will have a much longer time to evolve and flourish. Who knows their might even be intelligent, technologically advance life on such a planet.
The closest star to the sun is also a red dwarf called Proxima Centauri, about 4.2 light years from us. What makes it more exciting is the fact that there is a planet orbiting in it's habitable zone called "Proxima Centauri b". May be it will become home for future generations once the sun comes to the end of it's life. Assuming that the human race does not wipe itself out by then.
